SWAZILAND
- Fonteyn CarePoint
This community is surrounded by mountains and dirt roads. The people struggle to find enough food to feed their children. Our cooks that volunteer everyday to serve the children with no pay. They are able to take home food for their families after all the kids have eaten, so they in return can eat as well. There is a huge need in Fonteyn for caring people to simply show love to them. Pray for the children at this CarePoint that God will help us find ways to touch their lives with the love and hope He gives. Pray for their healing. Pray that as they encounter Jesus, they will in turn become "evangelists" - taking the good news to the rest of the community.
- Kakhoza CarePoint
The Kakhoza community is "the place where prostitutes and thieves are made" according to many locals. It is probably the roughest location of any of the CarePoints, but it also shines as a very bright light. In a community where alcoholism, drug abuse, and child abuse are rampant, there is a place of refuge for the children. Pray for the safety of our workers there, and pray for protection for the children who live there. Pray that God will touch lives and turn this community around through the testimonies of the children whose lives are rescued and developed at the Kakhoza CarePoint.
- Logoba CarePoint
Prostitution, crime, poverty, and unemployment all plague this community of about 15,000 people. It is located about 5 km from the city of Manzini and is made up mostly of job seekers from the rural areas. Water is collected from a community tap and many homes do not have electricity. Currently, about 300 children come to the care point for feeding. There are several leadership challenges in this community because the recognized leader passed away many years ago and a new one has not been appointed.
- Madonsa CarePoint
A relatively new CarePoint finished in October of 2006, Madonsa is a community about 4 miles outside of the city. The community is very poor and a large percentage of the children live without electricity and without running water. The CarePoint is still forming its identity but is headed up by a young and passionate teacher named Siphelele. The children at this CarePoint have already shown their ability to sing and dance. Pray that we can help them continue to develop their talents for the glory of God. Pray that the community sees the power of Christ's love in the day to day activities at the CarePoint. Pray that God meets the needs of the children and pray that a hunger for God develops in even the youngest children who come.
- Makholweni CarePoint
(Click here to view the picture gallery.)
This word means "the place of the Christians" because of the numerous churches located around. Unfortunately, due to the large number of children and apathy among most of the local churches, the many fatherless children are left out. Makholweni is outside of the city limits so it doesn't have access to many of the utilities and development of the city. Pray that as the children come to the CarePoint in Makholweni they not only find their physical needs met, but that they find the love of Jesus and the hope He gives. Pray that from this and other CarePoints will come leaders and world-changers - fully-devoted servants of Jesus Christ.
- Mangwaneni Manzini CarePoint
Mangwaneni Manzini is a community on the outskirts of Manzini off of the main road to Mozambique. It is across the street from the city garbage dump. A high percentage of the people in the community are unemployed forcing them to scrap for food and clothing in the neighboring garbage dump. It is probably the poorest area we work in right now. Pray for the growing number of AIDS orphans and other children living in extreme poverty in this area. Pray that the CarePoint will be a refuge where Hope is given to the "hopeless".
- Mangwaneni Mbabane CarePoint
This CarePoint is located on a hill on the outside of town, with about 5000 people in the immediate area. It is one of the hardest places in Mbabane. The people are starving for attention and the Gospel. The homes are mostly mud and straw with dirt roads that go through the whole communiity. For people to get fire they have to hike up the mountain and collect fire wood. Their food is beans and mealie and that sometimes is hard to come by. The children there suffer from HIV, TB and other sicknesses that are killing them due to lack of basic medical attention. The precious lives of little children are touched at this CarePoint every time the doors open. There they encounter people who love them genuinely - unlike many of the adults they have met and been abused by. They are fed, taught about Jesus, given basic education, medical care, and a place to belong. And it is all about giving them an encounter with Jesus. Pray that as they encounter Him, they find the abundant life that He gives.
- Maphiveni CarePoint (Coming Soon)
Located about 7 kilometres from Simunye, a town made up mostly of employees of the Royal Swaziland Sugar Cooperation, the community of Maphiveni has a population of about 2,000 people. It is right on the border between Swaziland and Mozambique. The majority of the people in the community are families of those that were removed from the sugar plantations in Simunye after losing their jobs or after the death of the bread winner. In this community (where water and electricity are unavailable luxuries), extreme poverty and HIV/AIDS are some of the major problems faced. Political and traditional leaders do not really acknowledge this community resulting in lots of forgotten children.
- Moneni CarePoint
(Click here to view the picture gallery.)
In Siswati, the local language of Swaziland, moneni means "place of jealousy." This community is the home of several very powerful traditional leaders for this part of the country. Many children are left on their own here while the single parent tries to find work. Many of our children at this CarePoint are extremely creative and come up with some very inspiring plays. They have even performed their skits at several government functions. Please pray that the children of the Moneni CarePoint will continue to encounter Jesus Christ in very real ways. Pray that they will spread the love they have received from Him to their parents and other children in the community.
- Murray Camp CarePoint
Murray Camp is a large "squatter camp" on the outskirts of the city of Manzini. The people are very poor and are not allowed to build permanent homes until the farm this community is located on is purchased. Please pray for the children of Murray Camp. Pray that our CarePoint there will continue to be a beacon of hope for them, and that the children and the entire community will be drawn to Jesus Christ's love through the efforts of Children's Cup.
- New Village CarePoint (Coming Soon)
About 6,000 people make up the population of New Village. It is located about 7 km from the city of Manzini. Most of the people are squatters from the rural areas or people that were relocated during the building of the main highway. There is a high rate of poverty, crime, prostitution and unemployment in the community. Water is collected from a community tap and electricity is not available.
- Ngwane Park CarePoint
This is the largest urban/peri-urban community in Swaziland. It covers a vast area so the kids at this CarePoint have to walk long distances to get to it. The communities at Ngwane Park really are actively involved in making the ministry to the children a success. Located on a large piece of land down by a small river, they have planted a big garden to help supplement the food provided by Children's Cup. Please pray that through this CarePoint, God will touch hundreds - even thousands - of precious children and give them a future and a hope in Jesus.
- Zakhele CarePoint
The community of Zakhele is on a ridge overlooking the city of Manzini. The community is known for its high rate of marijuana ("dagga" is what the locals call it) use and the common occurrence of theft. There are good people in the community, though, and we were blessed to find some wonderful ladies to be volunteer cooks at this CarePoint. Pray that we are able to help this community overcome its challenges and for an awesome opportunity for transformation.
- Zombodze CarePoint
One of the oldest communities in Swaziland, Zombodze has a population of about 6,000 people. It is located about 15 km from the city of Manzini. Few have access to electricity and water is collected from the nearby rivers. This community that has produced several of Swaziland’s influential figures now faces poverty as well as the issue of HIV/ AIDS. Currently, over 250 children come to the care point daily for feeding.
