2011: RECORD-BREAKING SUCCESS
For 2011′s project, we set a goal of 5,000 backpacks for kids in Africa. Thanks to our amazing supporters’ efforts, we collected and shipped a record 8,000 backpacks! (Check out this video recap from 2011′s project.)
And what’s even greater is that the funds raised for school fees for kids in Africa was more than double our goal of 150! We were able to send a record 329 kids to school this year because of your amazing response to our Back-to-School Project.
For many children in Africa, having their school fees paid means everything. They no longer have to face the decision whether to prostitute themselves to get the money to pay for school. They no longer have to face the hopelessness of having no future because they couldn’t go to school.
If you could see the joy that fills their eyes when we are able to tell them their school fees are covered, it would change your life.
And it does change theirs. Thank you for being a part.
2012: A NEW AND IMPROVED BACK-TO-SCHOOL PROJECT
TEN BUCKS AND A BACKPACK
This year, we’re simplifying things. We’re simply asking you to give TEN BUCKS AND A BACKPACK. The backpacks will give the children not just something useful, but a symbol of being loved and cared for. And the $10 will help us send kids to school who can’t afford the $150 annual school fee. It’s that simple.
What’s really cool is that we have a sponsor who is going to match your backpack giving… For the first 2,000 backpacks that we collect from our supporters, this sponsor will donate another backpack for the kids in Africa. What a great chance for you to leverage your giving to make an even greater impact!
If you’d like to do more, we’d love to encourage you to consider giving $150 to cover the school fees for a child for a whole school year. Or maybe you can cover several children’s school fees – whatever God lays on your heart to do, that’s what we need.
THIS YEAR’S GOALS: 10,000 BACKPACKS & 1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS
Last year, we collected 8,000 backpacks. This year, we’re setting a goal of 10,000.
And last year, we raised enough scholarships for 329 children for school. This year, we’re praying for 1,000.
That’s a big increase. But the need is real. And it is real big. But it is still well within the reach of God’s provision. So we’re just asking you to do what God asks you to do to help. If we all do that, the need will be met. Again, it’s just that simple.
THE NITTY GRITTY
Here’s how it works:
1. Buy a new backpack. (Look for kids’ styles, any colors – just be sure to stay away from creepy, spooky, or magic themes.)
2. (OPTIONAL) Include a personal note or write a prayer for the child who gets your backpack.
3. Be sure to include a check for $10 inside your backpack. Do not include cash. (If you prefer to give online, simply include a note inside the backpack with your name and the date you gave your $10 online for this project. Online giving can be done by clicking here any time.) And remember, every $150 we receive will help another child go to school for a whole year.
4. Drop your backpack off at your church (for participating churches) or mail it to us directly at:

*Backpacks must be delivered to us by September 15, 2012 to be included in this year’s shipment. (Deadlines for dropoffs at participating churches and groups will be slightly earlier. Check with your church or group for details.)
5. Spread the word! Post a picture of your family with your backpack(s) on your Facebook wall and challenge others to get involved! (And let us know so we can link to your post too!)
And last but certainly not least, make sure to watch our Children’s Cup facebook wall for pictures of the kids in Africa getting their backpacks later in the year. It’s going to be so awesome to see the joy and hope you’ve given them light up their faces when they get their new backpacks!
